AUGMENTATIVE COMMUNICATION
  • Evaluation of Augmentative Communication possibilities for

  • Individuals that are nonverbal or demonstrating speech that is not able to be understood and would benefit from an alternative communication system

  • Therapist has used augmentative communication with individuals since its development and has transitioned with the technology to current available systems.

  • Ongoing speech and language therapy after the augmentative device has been obtained.

AUTISM
  • Speech and language evaluation and therapy is totally dependent on the individual needs of the person that has demonstrated characteristics of being on the autism spectrum.

  • Extensive experience with all age groups

  • Skilled in social stories.

  • Skilled in icon charts and visual organizers.

  • Skilled in interpersonal communication explanation and instruction.

PARKINSON DISEASE
  • Evaluation and speech and language therapy for individuals with speech and language disorders specific to neurological disorders, specifically Parkinson Disease.

  • LSVT Certified

  • Improvement for Soft voice, Mumbled speech, Monotone speech and Hoarse voice

  • Results in Louder volume, Improved intelligibility, Swallowing activity, Facial expression, Confidence and Neural functioning.

SIGN LANGUAGE
  • Sign Language can be used by individuals with a hearing impairment and also by individuals with speech that is not easily understood by others. 

  • Instruction in “SIGNING EXACT ENGLISH”

    • ​sign language instruction is provided to clients and those communicating with them - so that everyone needing to understand the signs and the way the individual using them makes the sign, are able to communicate. 
  • Vocalization plus sign language is always advocated by this therapist resulting in TOTAL COMMUNICATION.

EXPRESSIVE LANGUAGE
  • Improvement in saying words

  • Increase number of words per utternace

  • Instruction and Production of correct grammatical structures

  • Instruction in grammatical correctness

  • Teach expressive phrases and sentences

  • Correction of pronouns, question words, noun, verbs, verb endings, and auxiliary verbs.

ARTICULATION
  • Articulation therapy for improvement in sound production of all developmentally appropriate productions.

  • Therapy will occur for the sound in isolation

  • After sound’s correction in isolation, it will be followed by correct production of the sound in all positions in syllables, words, phrases and sentences.

  • Carryover to correct production of the sound in reading and in conversation all developmentally appropriate sounds (not productions)

  • Improvement in whole word accuracy

SOCIAL SKILLS
  • Instruction on basic social skills of eye contact and topic maintenance

  • Instruction on greetings, response to questions, initiation of conversation

  • Specific social skills can be taught specific to the needs and environment of the individual in therapy.

  • Family members and friends can be included in the therapy.

  • “Social Stories” are used to define the ‘rules’ and steps for the appropriate social skills in a situation.

  • Icon charts for a schedule of skills can be generated with the help of the client and the family.

  • Instruction in multiple meanings of words and phrases

  • Instruction in idioms.

LANGUAGE PROCESSING
  • Specific instruction in concepts

  • Specific instruction in labeling and stating function.

  • Specific instruction in associations and categorization.

  • Specific instruction in similarities and differences.

  • Specific instruction in multiple meanings.

  • Specific instruction in attributes.

  • Other areas specific to the needs of the individual can also be remediated.

FLUENCY / STUTTERING
  • Assessment of fluency and stuttering for speaking and reading.

  • Therapy for primary and secondary symptoms of word repetition, blocking, hesitations, interjections, etc.

  • Scripts for fluent speaking in specific situations and specific environments and with specific persons and with practice for any target sounds.
